Beecham rarities Part 2

This is a continuation of the theme of Beecham recordings from the late-40s missing from the Warners mono box set for contractual reasons.


In 1946, Beecham switched from recording with his old orchestra, the London Philharmonic, to his new ensemble, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Most of the recordings from the years 1946 to 1950 ARE in the Warners box, so this post is just to pick up some loose ends.


Most importantly, we have Sibelius' Symphony No. 6, together with Mozart's Symphony No. 27 (quite a rarity back then), and short pieces by Berlioz, Mussorgsky & Bach. Of special interest are the two overtures by Mehul (Les Deux Aveugles de Tolede) & Pasiello (Nina), both from the collection of Mr. Tomasz Poszwinski.


Several recordings have been issued on other labels (Handel's "Messiah" on Biddulph, Gounod's "Faust" & excerpts from Richard Strauss' "Elektra" & "Ariadne auf Naxos" on Naxos) and are not included here.
