Well, I am back (at last)

... I'll try not to leave it so long next time. My wife has been poorly for some years, and I have felt very rough these past few months.


Anyway, here's a rarity transferred for my old website (Historic Recordings.co.uk) by Mark Obert-Thorn. Louis Zimmermann plays Beethoven's Violin Concerto (first electrical recording, but see Mr. Obert-Thorn's notes for more background. I've also uploaded Zimmermann & two colleagues in the "Ghost" Trio (NOT Mr. Obert-Thorn's work, but kindly shared by a Dutch colleague.

This is a recent release by the UK Sibelius Society, which I helped to prepare. Sunday 13th June 1954 Symphony No. 3, Six Songs Op. 88 (orch. Jalas & sung by Ellabelle Davis) & Night Ride & Sunrise. 2

Here are two more recordings that fell through the EMI / Warner net when they issued their Icon boxed set of William Steinberg & the Pittsburgh a few years back. First, the other J. Strauss items. 1.

Universal recently issued a mega-box of Ansermet stereo recordings, but somehow missed off this recording, while duplicating the 1957 version. So, for completists, here is the (surprisingly elusive) 1
