Entitled "Great DG & EMI Recordings", this is one of those South Korean boxed sets that has a short shelf-life, and is difficult to obtain in the Western world. It was issued about 10 years ago by Universal, but most of the recordings are on EMI. In 1957, Boult accompanied Rabin in four recordings, the Mendelssohn Concerto, the Wieniawski 2nd, Bruch's Scottish Fantasia & Ravel's Tzigane. This seems to be something of a rarity, never on CD as far as I can tell: Haydn's Symphony No. 94 ('Surprise') recorded in Symphony Hall, Boston, on 5 November 1946, by Koussevitzky and 51 players of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Another item that seems to have slipped through the cracks. Boult made two visits to Vienna in 1959 to record for Westminster: Holst's "The Planets" & the two Vaughan Williams fantasies (Tallis & Greensleeves) have appeared on a DG disc, but there wasn't room for the English Folk-Song Suite. In 1953, Sir Adrian Boult recorded Holst's "The Planets" for Pye / Nixa. This mono recording was replaced a few years later by a stereo version on Westminster, with the Vienna State Opera Orchestra.
